Description
Fast Track is an upright early-maturing, cool season, annual small grain which provides outstanding forage for all classes of livestock. It is a very drought tolerant disease resistant variety, It is adapted to a wide variety of climate and soil conditions but performs best on light loams or sandy soils, but it will also do well in clay soils. It can be used for livestock forage, wildlife plantings as well as cover crop or green manure crops.
As a cover crop, Fast Track cereal rye can scavenge nitrogen, build soil organic matter, loosen topsoil (reduce compaction), prevent erosion, and suppress weeds. In addition, Fast Track is a non-host plant for nematodes. Once nematodes enter the plant, they cannot escape. When the plant decomposes, it releases organic acids and stimulates soil microorganisms which further reduce the nematode population.
Fast Track with its rapid growth and early maturity, provides producers with a cool season alternative forage, Suitable to be no-tilled into bermudagrass or improved pastures, which will not suppress bermudagrass green-up in the spring.
